Greetings!
It has been so long that I think I have forgotten how to do this... Oh well, practice makes perfect right? Brace yourselves.
Nothing new, still unemployed. Which is why I have spent a large percentage of my free time watching movies. On this marathon of movie watching, I watched two movies this week that tickled my fancy in a strange but pleasant way. And here I am writing about them:
Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind
I must confess that the name Jim Carrey doesn't fill me with copious amounts of excitement, I liked him when I was a fat, burger devouring, coca-cola imbibing ten year old. But I must give him credit for being the reason why I am now such a huge fan of the visual arts. The Mask and the Ace Ventura movie series were among the very first movies that I loved.
But now on to this movie. The concept was original and quite extraordinary. Imagine being able to erase any kind of emotional pain? Sounds good, but watch the movie and you will see that it isn't such a great idea. I loved Kate Winslet as the eccentric 'Clementine.' She done it very well. I liked the character 'Joel', he is a harmless oddball who just wants to find meaning in his life and finds social interaction quite challenging. A very relateable character. Jim Carrey done a good job playing 'Joel'.
All in all, it was a good movie and I am glad I spent an hour and a half of my life watching it. But I think it could have ended a little better... It was like eating your favourite meal and dropping your plate just before the last bite. The movie teaches an important lesson, 'Joel' would have never known how great life could be if he never met 'Clementine'... So despite how hurt how he was. He couldn't deny how much meaning she gave to his life. He loved her for that and just couldn't erase her. Pain is part of life, you have to face it, learn from it and move on. Erasing it teaches you nothing and who knows what life will give you next if you just learn to accept and move on... "Meet me in Montauk..."
Amelie
This was a french movie. The only languages I speak fluently are English and Portuguese. I also speak fluent Broken Spanish and Broken Afrikaans. I know the basic french like Bonjour and Merci etc... Other than that, I'm pretty sure whatever else I know will only get me arrested... Like Menage a trois?
This was quite a quirky little movie, I did enjoy the plot and all that but I must confess reading subtitles while watching a movie gets quite annoying. But thumbs up if you are fluent in French, it is definitely worth watching and quite enjoyable. Plus Audrey Tatou rates quite high on my babe scale! :)
Ciao.
